ISKSAA IMRI AUSTRALIA FELLOWSHIP REPORT

My sincere thanks to

We reached Adelaide at 8am on Sunday 4th May 2014 after our flight journey. We were received by Mr. Donald at Adelaide Airport with a Warm welcome. He took us to the house at 17 - laffers Road Belair. The accommodation was up to the mark of expectation. Mr. Donald took us to the Blackwood market in the afternoon where we purchased our day to day eatables and a 3G SIM.

Next Day On Monday 5th May We started our Fellowship programme when we met our Senior Clinical Director and Professor, Prof. Krishnan at Flinders Medical Centre. We had a opportunity to see reverse shoulder arthroplasty by expert hands in a 89 year old female patient for three part fracture proximal humerus. He gave us the tips and tricks of how to avoid complications in reverse shoulder arthroplasty in a beautiful manner. We then saw a couple of knee scopies and a unipolar cementedarthroplasty. In the afternoon we had a visit to Belair National Park with Mr. Donald. In the Evening Professor Krishnan arranged a welcome dinner for us at the legacy of India, Blackwood.

The fellowship at Adelaide was an academic feast for us overall. We had an opportunity to see lots of replacements of various joints under the supervisorship of stalwarts of orthopaedics of South Australia. We observed almost 30 joint replacements of knee, 20 hip replacements, Three shoulder replacements, 25 ACL reconstructions, 10 rotator cuff and Labral repairs and many many shoulder and knee scopies. In addition to these commonly performed procedures we had an opportunity to see Three Hip scopies done by Dr. Mathew Liptuk, three wrist scopies and one ankle scopy. Dr. Liptuk demonstrated the procedure of hip arthroscopy in a very nice way. He made us wise and knowledgeable about this highly technically demanding procedure and gave us through knowledge of how to avoid complications in terms of portal placement and overall.

We also had an opportunity to observe five cases of medial meniscal repairs during our fellowship programme. Prof. Krishnan gave us an insight of how to perform a good meniscal repair and what are the ideal indications of a meniscal repair. He demonstrated us the technical tips and tricks of meniscal repair to achieve good results.

At the last we felt that this fellowship opportunity added a lot to our basic level of knowledge in Arthroscopy and Arthroplasty which shall help us in managing our patients back home in a better way.

We provide our sincere thanks once again to ISKSAA TEAM for their untiring efforts in order to make this fellowship programme possible for us.

Our special thanks to Prof. Krishnan and His IMRI team who made our stay comfortable and enjoyable in a beautiful city of Adelaide and left us with pleasant everlasting and indelible memories in our minds.

Yours sincerely
