ISKSAA PUNE 2017 FELLOWSHIP REPORT

I would like to thank the ISKSAA team for providing me the chance to undergo fellowship training in shoulder & sports injury under Dr. Ashish Babulkar for two weeks which was like a dream come true for me. A special thanks to Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj, Dr. Lalit Maini and Dr. IPS Oberoi for their support and help in organizing this fellowship program.I would also like to thank Dr. Ashish Babulkar for his valuable time in making sure that my fellowship training was to be a valuable learning experience. I contacted Dr. Ashish Bhabhulkar, and he was kind enough to allot me fellowship dates in August 2018. I reached sports injury department of Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, Pune on the morning of 27th August and was amazed to see such a great organisation. I met Dr.Ashish Bhabhulkar in the shoulder & sports medicine OPD. I was welcomed in a very warm manner. He maintained the ardour and passion during the fellowship period by teaching basics of shoulder examination and surgical tips. It was a busy OPD three times a week with an average of 60 patients per day, giving the fellows an exposure to a variety of conditions in shoulder . The operation theatres were scheduled every alternate day from 9 in the morning to usually 5 in the evening, with 7 - 8 cases being operated on an average. I got an opportunity to witness variety of shoulder arthroscopy procedures like rotator cuff tear, Bankart repair, Ramplissage procedure, SLAP repair, arthroscopic latarjet, and arthroscopic AC joint reconstruction. The OTs at the institute were ''State of the art", catering to the large case load. The best part of the fellowship apart from surgical skills is to enrich our basics of shoulder examinations. I went through a shoulder examination protocol laid by Dr. Babhulkar himself along with the physiotherapy regimen protocol known as PSRP (Pune shoulder rehabilitation program). I learnt basics of shoulder examination and a concise way to reach to a correct diagnosis in shoulder pathologies and also learnt the importance role of physiotherapy. I have been fortunate enough to watch and learn the skills of shoulder arthroscopy and arthroplasty from an experienced hand. Dr. Ashish Bhabhulkar sir is a great surgeon and wholehearted teacher to educate the younger generations. It was an inspiring experience. I am sure that this fellowship will be of great help in my career. I would like to mention that the efforts put in by ISKSAA team, in training the young orthopaedic surgeons by organizing the various courses and fellowship programs, deserve a huge applause. I hope and wish that this trend keeps on continuing. I strongly recommend this fellowship to all.

Regards
