ISKSAA EDGE HILL UK TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIP 2022

I had the opportunity to spend two weeks with Dr. Kapil Kumar and his team at Woodend Hospital, Aberdeen. Besides being an extremely skilled and technically sound surgeon, Dr. Kumar was an extremely gracious and courteous host.

Dr. Kumar was kind enough to allow me to sit in for his private clinic where-in we had a healthy discussion about the various cases that presented to the OPD. Surgically, I got to see the entire spectrum of shoulder pathologies, from instability to arthritis. Even though we could not wash up for the cases, he ensured we were able to see every step using the overhead camera and kindly explained every nuance and cleared all our doubts as the surgery progressed. He ensured our complete understanding of the shoulder pathologies and happily cleared all our doubts during his clinics at Woodend Hospital.

Besides being a great clinician, he was extremely kind enough to invite me to accompany him to a game of golf. It was a great way to spend my Sunday in Aberdeen. Dr. Kumar made us feel right at home and even invited us to his house where we were treated to great home-cooked food. On relatively free days as well, Dr. Kumar ensured we had some sort of surgical/clinical exposure with the rest of his team.

I am honoured to have had the pleasure to work with Dr. Kumar. I have taken back a lot of fond memories and learnt a lot of technical nuances about shoulder surgery which is sure to help me grow into a sound shoulder surgeon. I thank Dr. Kumar and ISKSAA for granting this wonderful opportunity to me.
