ISKSAA BIRMINGHAM PF TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIP

I am grateful to Dr. Pushpindar Bajaj, Dr. Lalit Maini and ISKSAA organizing committee for selecting me ISKSAA Birmingham Patello femoral travelling fellowship under guidance of Dr. Tanweer Ashraf extending from 29 MAY to 12 June 2023.

This fellowship involves three separate trust run hospitals namely- Queen Elizabeth Hospital ,Royal Orthopedic Hospital and Good hope hospital. Queen Elizabeth is a tertiary referral centre and is one of the major trauma centers of England while Royal Orthopedic primarily manages elective orthopedics. Accommodation has to be self arranged and I chose to stay with my brother who stays in Leamington spa,town near Birmingham.

Dr. Tanweer Ashraf is senior consultant knee surgeon at QE and ROH with special interest in patello femoral articulation. He is a very polite, humble, dedicated, skilful surgeon and is always ready to help. He arranged special welcome dinner for both the fellows. He runs a patellofemoral clinic at Royal Orthopedic Hospital and receives referrals for patello-femoral problems from all UK. We completed our fellowship under four consultants including Mr Ashraf. Tarek Boutefnouchet and Omer Alanie are consultants in QE and ROH while Tamer Sweed is consultant in Good hope hospital.

We observed following procedures-femoral trochleoplasty, ACL repair and Reconstructions, multiligamentous knee injury, total knee replacement, unicompartmental knee replacement, patellar tendon transfer, meniscus repairs and many more.

This course has been very meticulously designed to impart maximum knowledge in 2 to 3 weeks and dealing with all aspects of a knee, especially patella-femoral articulation.
