ISKSAA DELHI TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIPS

"First of all I would like to thank ISKSAA , Dr.P.S.Bajaj and Dr.Lalit Maini, in particular for bestowing the opportunity to interact with different Experts in a number of Institutions, doing variety of Procedures through the ISKSAA- 2 week New-Delhi Fellowship. Along with my colleague Dr.Dharmendra Kumar from Lucknow, we thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay in New Delhi and were immensely benefitted in fine-tuning our skills as well as serving as a stimulus to have higher professional Objectives. This is a brief report of the times we spent written to be of help to potential candidates taking the Fellowship.

The Guest House of the Maulana Azad Medical College near Delhi Gate, where we were accommodated with a twin sharing double bedroom and decent AC. 24 hour Canteen located at a walk-able distance relieved our anxiety on day-1, along with the very punctual pickup and drop facility arranged throughout the fortnight. Twice during our stay Dr.Lalit Maini personally took care of the transport in spite of his busy schedule and interacted with us regarding his vision for ISKSAA. We also spent good time with the Books at the MAMC Library located adjacent to the Guest House.

Most Consultants encouraged discussions and were keenly interested to see that all our serious and naive queries were answered. We literally walked nonchalantly into all these hallowed corridors without any hindrances as ISKSAA Fellows. We observed and assisted almost all variety of ACL reconstructions mentioned in the literature along with the art of completing the procedure faster than our usual pace without compromise. We were exposed to a variety of Instrumentation and plethora of implants both in ACL and TKR. Unicondylar Knee Arthroplasty was one of the eagerly awaited procedure we assisted during this Fellowship. We were lucky to observe quite a few THR which came as a Bonus and also broke the monotony of TKR.

All Consultants took pains to keep us comfortable as well as continued discussions by joining for sumptuous Lunch every-day. We used to look forward for the SMS at 8 pm daily from Dr.Lalit Maini detailing the programme for the next day and finalizing the pickup times. MAMC is a huge Campus with ample free space to do Morning Walks daily.

Observing Experts like this who make the procedures look very simple may have a tendency to make us feel complacent. We used to remind among ourselves that it is a well trained team which is performing in front of us and the numbers being churned out helps them to become perfect starting from the staff to the Senior most Consultant. Both Government owned Institutions and Private Corporate Hospitals observed by us had one thing in common being the whole-hearted commitment to the technique and patient outcome in spite of different types of constraints. I had a very good young friend in Dr.Dharmendra Kumar who kept most discussions lively and made it a point to put multiple queries to every Consultant. He kept a humorous atmosphere in the guesthouse by his witty comments on the day's proceedings as well as the changes we need to incorporate in upgrading our practice. It was so overwhelming experience for me personally that I started thinking about the departure only by 13th day of the Fellowship. The time I could spend usefully, has left me determined to become a student regularly by attending more Fellowships as well as kindled a dream in me to do a Live-demonstration along-with becoming a faculty one day..."
