ISKSAA COLUMBIA TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIPS

We are very thankful to Dr Lalit Maini, Dr Pushpinder Bajaj and the entire ISKSAA team for honouring us this fellowship in Missouri Orthopaedic Institute, Columbia, USA.

We have been selected for this fellowship during ISKSAA Global Summit 2016. We were very excited about it and we spent 6 weeks for this fellowship from 21st August 2016 to 30th September 2016.

After a very long flight crossing the continents, we arrived Missouri. We were welcomed with very pleasant weather and excellent accommodation in the University campus. The very next day, we visited Missouri Orthopaedic Institute, state of the art flagship of the University of Missouri. We were warmly welcomed by our mentor Dr Ajay Aggarwal, the Director of Hip Preservation and Joint Replacement Surgery at the University of Missouri. Coincidentally, he belonged to the same Alma Mater as ours i.e. Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), which created a special bond between us, with so many of common interests and experiences to share. He was a very kind person and a very skilled surgeon.

He was the master of Joint replacement surgery. He has a good command of primary as well as revision hip and knee arthroplasty and we were fortunately enough to witness hip arthroscopy cases in conditions like FAI and Dysplasia. Our schedule was 3 days OR and 2 days clinic in a week. He always ensured that wewere comfortablein the clinics or Operating room and took care of our routine at the institute. He was always helpful in satisfying our curiosity regarding all basic and advanced situations in arthroplasty. We saw a huge number of cases. He made sure that apart from the academics, we had good time roaming around the city and he made arrangement for passes for a season football match, which was a lifetime experience as we witnessed it for the first time. He also invited us to his home where we spend a good evening with many of his friends practising medicine in USA.

American trip was never complete without visiting to “the City that never sleeps” i.e New York City and thus we planned a 7 days trip across the east coast of USA. So, at the end, we can conclude that it was a wonderful academic experience at one of the best Orthopaedic centres in United States of America witnessing the state of the art facilities and learning from the masters. We are sure that this fellowship will help us in developing a wonderful future in arthroplasty.

Thank You ISKSAA!!
