ISKSAA BATHINDA TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIP 2026
I am pleased to present my 1-month clinical observership experience undertaken during April at Nagpal Multispeciality Hospital, Bathinda, under the mentorship of Dr. Parampreet Singh Nagpal.
This observership provided extensive exposure to a high-volume centre specializing in conventional and robotic-assisted joint replacement surgery. During the program, I had the opportunity to observe and participate in the management of over 200 orthopaedic cases, which significantly enhanced my understanding of modern arthroplasty practices and peri-operative care.
Under the guidance of Dr. Nagpal, I developed a deeper understanding of Total Knee Replacement (TKR) and Total Hip Replacement (THR), including principles of surgical planning, implant positioning, and post-operative rehabilitation.
A major highlight of the program was exposure to robotic-assisted arthroplasty systems, including the CORI robotic platform by Smith+Nephew and the Cuvis robotic system by Meril. Observing these technologies provided valuable insight into precision-based joint replacement surgery and evolving advancements in orthopaedic robotics.
During the observership, I gained valuable experience in:
- Conventional and robotic-assisted TKR and THR procedures performed in modern modular operating theatres.
- Clinical decision-making, patient selection, deformity assessment, and pre-operative planning.
- Post-operative rehabilitation protocols, early mobilization, and functional recovery strategies.
Dr. Nagpal’s dedication to surgical excellence and academic teaching greatly contributed to my professional growth. I also extend my sincere thanks to the entire team at Nagpal Multispeciality Hospital for their support and collaborative learning environment.
In conclusion, this fellowship was an academically enriching and clinically rewarding experience that significantly strengthened my understanding of contemporary conventional and robotic joint replacement surgery. I would strongly recommend it to orthopaedic surgeons seeking focused exposure in modern arthroplasty and robotic-assisted joint reconstruction.
Warm Regards,
Dr. Pankaj Vir Singh
