ISKSAA LIVERPOOL UK TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIP 2025

To
The ISKSAA President,

I recently had the opportunity to attend a two-week upper limb observership at Wirral University, organized by ISKSAA. Overall, the experience was highly valuable and provided excellent clinical exposure.

Positive Aspects:

  • Clinical Experience: Observing reverse shoulder arthroplasty performed by Dr. Brookes was particularly insightful and enriching specially observed patient specific Arthroplasty jig and navigation assisted reverse. It offered a practical understanding of surgical technique and perioperative management. Elbow and shoulder arthroscopy by Dr Bhalaik , Dr Brookes and Dr morris was great. Radial head fixation with minimal implant by Dr Robinson was very insightful.
  • Working Culture: The working environment at Wirral University was welcoming and supportive especially with Dr Guruwinder who was extremely humble and generous to guide us. The team was approachable, willing to share knowledge, and fostered a good learning atmosphere.

Special thanks to Dr Bhalaik for a great evening out with leisure dinner and his insightful thoughts.

Areas for Improvement:

  • Scheduling: Having access to the surgical schedule in advance would help observers plan their learning more effectively and optimize the experience in such less duration of observership.
  • Accommodation: Arrangements or guidance regarding suitable accommodation options for visiting observers could make the stay smoother and more convenient.

Conclusion:
The observership was a rewarding and professionally beneficial experience, and I am grateful to ISKSAA and the faculty at Wirral University for the opportunity. With minor improvements in scheduling communication and accommodation support, the program could be made even more impactful for future participants.

Thanks
Regards
Dr Rohit Kumar Goyal
