ISKSAA ABERDEEN SHOULDER FELLOWSHIP TESTIMONIAL 2025
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj Sir for giving me an opportunity to enhance my knowledge regarding shoulder surgery by awarding me the ISKSAA travelling Aberdeen Shoulder fellowship for 2 weeks under Dr Kapil Kumar Sir from 30th June to 13th July, 2025 at Woodend Hospital. These two weeks helped me a lot in enhancing my thought process regarding diagnosing shoulder pathologies and planning subsequent treatment.
Dr Kapil Kumar sir is not only an amazing surgeon, but a truly lovely human being. He ensured that we never felt out of place in a foreign set-up and used to answer our amateurish queries smilingly. It was a privilege attending OPDs with him, and observing his sequence of examination and diagnostic thought process- the way he counselled the patient will benefit my practice immensely. Sir would discuss the imaging and scans of the scheduled operative patients, and explain his thought process. He even explained in detail the pre-operative computer assisted planning of a reverse shoulder replacement. During the course of my fellowship, I observed both anatomical as well as reverse shoulder replacement, as well as, a case of custom-made reverse shoulder, along with rotator cuff repairs, ac joint decompression, labral repair with remplissage. He used to guide us through each and every step of the operation, right from positing of the patient; and giving innumerable tips and tricks. He even explained to us the rehab protocols following surgery in detail.
My fellowship tenure was thus, a lovely mix of academic learning along with short weekend trips to Edinburgh and Stonehaven. I thank ISKSAA for this opportunity and highly appreciate their initiative for training young orthopedic surgeons.
