ISKSAA ABERDEEN 2019 FELLOWSHIP

I am writing to express my sincere gratitude to Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj, Dr. Lalit Maini, Dr. Raju Easwaran and team ISKSAA for making the ISKSAA travelling Aberdeen fellowship possible. I was thrilled to learn of my selection for this honor and I am deeply appreciative of your support. I was awarded the ISKSAA travelling Aberdeen fellowship of 2 weeks in ISKSAA BESS 2019 held at Delhi.

It was an absolute pleasure to meet Dr. Kapil Kumar, a humble, dedicated and passionate man. His patience to address and dispel doubts plaguing us in decision making towards shoulder pathologies makes him a mentor par excellence. Throughout surgeries, he was patient enough to clear our doubts.

Woodend Hospital, Aberdeen is a great hospital catering to a wide spectrum of patients. We were given our Initial orientation by Dr. Avinash Rai, an MTI Fellow, who was ever helpful with invaluable inputs. During the programme, we attended six theatres and observed a wide variety of surgeries which included Arthroscopic Rotator cuff repair, Arthroscopic Bankart Repair, Arthroscopic Sub acromial decompression, Arthroscopic removal of calcific deposits, Chronic AC joint disruption treated with Arthrex dog bone technique, Total and Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty, many Arthroscopic Shoulder Cuff repairs, Shoulder Instability cases, Arthroscopic SLAP repairs, Shoulder replacement, Reverse shoulder replacement, total hip replacement, total knee replacement and many more.

It was also a delight to observe and interact with other Surgeons at Woodend Hospital, who were warm and receptive. This gave a platform for a discussion on their protocols and approach towards the cases.

We were fortunate to attend the Aberdeen Shoulder meeting held on 4th and 5th of October at Aberdeen Royal Infirmry where Dr. Kapil Kumar along with the stalwarts of shoulder surgery Dr. Cormac Kelly, Dr. Mark Falworth, Dr. Simon Bell gave an insight into their wealth of experience.

I am thankful to Dr. Kapil for inviting us for a wonderful dinner at his home. We enjoyed the dinner, his culinary skills, the conversation and most of all the way how special he made us feel.

Myself and Dr. Anil Gulia visited the Highlands, Stonehaven, Inverness and many more wonderful places there at the weekend.

This altogether made up for a truly memorable experience both in terms of Work and play.

Once again I would like to convey my earnest respects and gratitude.

I also thank my friends and fellow partners in the journey Dr. Anil Gulia and Dr. parbhakar for their support and cooperation during the stay from 23th of September to 5th of October.
